【約翰福音10:7-9】所以，耶穌又對他們說：「我實實在在的告訴你們，我就是羊的門。【NIV】Therefore Jesus said again, "Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 凡在我以先來的都是賊，是強盜；羊卻不聽他們。All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 我就是門；凡從我進來的，必然得救，並且出入得草吃。I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.
從這段說明我們可以體會到，耶穌為了保護羊群，在夜晚冒著性命危險，親自扮演羊門的角色。羊若進入羊門，就能脫離從外部而來的危險，又因為耶穌是好牧羊人，祂不顧自己的性命，保護自己的羊，所以羊群可以進出這門，吃茂盛的青草，健健康康的成長。耶穌是門，象徵祂是的得救的管道，是進入神國的道路。祂也是道路，真理，生命。(約14:6)。祂不但拯救神國的百姓，餵養他們，因此耶穌說：【約翰福音10:10】盜賊來，無非要偷竊，殺害，毀壞；我來了，是要叫羊（或作：人）得生命，並且得的更豐盛。【NIV】The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
